Encouraging Comunity through green Thumbs

Introduction
Planted is a social media application designed to facilitate the trading of plant cuttings and seeds among gardening enthusiasts. Much like popular dating apps such as Tinder, Planted leverages user profiles, swiping functionality, and location-based features to connect users with potential plant traders and get to know their inventory. This case study explores the inception, development, and impact of Planted on the gardening community.
Background:
The idea for Planted stemmed from me caring for my plants and the frustration of not knowing what to do with my cuttings. I could either throw them out or compost them however what I wanted to do was trade them to grow my plant collection. There is not a local community for me to do that so I wanted to create one.
Development and Features:
Key features of the app include:
User Profiles: Users create profiles highlighting their gardening interests, experience level, and the types of plants they have available for trade.
Swiping Interface: Similar to Tinder, users can swipe through profiles of other gardeners in their area, indicating their interest in connecting for a potential trade.
Messaging System: Once a mutual interest is established, users can chat securely within the app to discuss trade details, share gardening tips, and build connections.
Location-Based Search: The app utilizes GPS technology to find potential trading partners nearby, facilitating local exchanges and fostering a sense of community.
Impact and Community Building:
I intend to inspire and educate other green thumbs and help each other improve. I understand that is how most others improve. One thing that stuck with me that a marine biologist told me is that they work with their competing aquariums for information and tips on how to care for their animals. I would like to create an information network at the very least on top of the trading network to help others grow.
